Tutorials

Tutorial #1 - AI Oceanography

November 17, 2025 14:00 - 18:00 Conference Room A Prof. Young-Heon Jo

We will explore how AI can be applied to oceanographic research, outlining key concepts and common problem types. On the practical side, you'll work with complete ready-to-run code to test and visualize ocean color observations.

What You'll Learn:

  • Fundamentals of AI in oceanographic research
  • Key concepts and common problem types
  • Hands-on experience with ocean color data analysis
  • Ready-to-run code for data visualization

Prerequisites:

  • Basic knowledge of Python programming
  • Familiarity with ocean color concepts (recommended)

Tutorial #2 - Ocean Color Remote Sensing based on IOPs

November 18, 2025 09:00 - 12:00 Conference Room B Prof. Zhongping Lee

We will explore the ocean color remote sensing system centered on the inherent optical properties (IOPs), which includes the inversion algorithms of IOPs and the applications of the retrieved IOPs. Measurement method of remote-sensing reflectance (Rrs) will also be discussed.

What You'll Learn:

  • Basic relationships between IOPs and apparent optical properties (AOPs)
  • The logic background of the quasi-analytical algorithm (QAA) and its implementation
  • Various applications of the retrieved IOPs
  • Tips and cautions in obtaining accurate Rrs in the field

Prerequisites:

  • Familiarity with ocean color concepts
